Fancy a fall excursion? On September 28, Wildnispark Zurich celebrates the anniversary of "25 years of the wild Sihlwald". An exciting event for the whole family.
The wilderness day in Sihlwald the Sunday after next offers fun, games and exciting nature knowledge for the whole family. The focus is on the "25 years of wild Sihlwald" anniversary and, as a bonus, the opening of the fourth stage of the Via Natura. Via Natura is an initiative of the Zurich hiking trails and leads through the most beautiful natural landscapes in the canton of Zurich.
"25 years of the wild Sihlwald".
For a quarter of a century, the Sihlwald forest has been allowed to transform itself into a wilderness. If you would like to learn more about the largest natural forest reserve in the Swiss Plateau, then the lecture by forest ecologist Nicolas Roth is just the thing for you. As a specialist in deadwood and insects, he will transport his audience into an exciting, hidden world.
The junior rangers of the Wildnispark Zurich Wilderness Park and the wilderness messengers have put together an entertaining quiz for guests about the unique forest wilderness in the Sihl Valley. Children can also solve puzzles about the Sihlwald animals on an exciting search for clues. Did you know that polecats can be found in the Sihlwald? At the Pro Natura stand you can find out more about this rather secretive species of marten.
The Sihlwald exhibition in the visitor center is also worth a visit: it shows the history of the forest from the intensive use of wood to the development of today's natural forest reserve. Admission is free on Wilderness Day.
The Friends of the Zurich Wilderness Park and Zürcher Kantonalbank will be on site with games of skill. There is even gold to be won at the ZKB. Important to know: ZKB has been the main sponsor of the Wildnispark Zurich and the Zurich hiking trails for many years. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their commitment to the region.
When and where?
The Wilderness Day will take place on Sunday, September 28 from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm. The stands are located on the grounds of the visitor center near the Sihlwald train station.
